Solar Hot Water System Cost
Rather than skimp and save a few hundred dollars, we’d encourage you to buy quality and get a high-efficiency solar hot water system or heat pump that’s built to perform and built to last.
Your usage | System size | System price (after rebate) |
---|---|---|
Small user | 170L heat pump | From $2,500 |
Medium user | 280L heat pump | From $2,900 |
Solar hot water with 2 collectors and a 315L tank | From $4,700 | |
Large user | Solar hot water with 3 collectors and a 400L tank | From $5,700 |
These prices for a system supplied and installed are indicative. Additional costs such as tilt frames, power point installation, switchboard work, concrete slab provision, additional pipework, pipe size upgrades and gas to electric circuitry may apply.
What if I don’t use a lot of hot water?
If you don’t use a lot of hot water and you want a more environmentally friendly water heater, you may choose to get a heat pump instead.
Heat pumps are an efficient type of storage water heater that extracts heat from the air. They are particularly useful if you have limited roof space for collectors/panels, or have poor orientation or shading. Be mindful that heat pumps shouldn’t be installed right along the coast, as they suck air into the unit and if this is laden with salt, the units tend to corrode prematurely.
